There can be various types of stains in a mattress like blood stains, cigarette stains, mold and mildew, urine stains and odor, stains caused by colored drinks etc.
Blood stains can be removed by several ways:
- By using hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide should be applied to the mattress and blotted while it is still bubbling. This might not clean stain but will help to lessen it.
- Rinse with cold water: rub in meat tenderizer from the pantry that cleans the proteins. Rinse and remove the rust so that the iron found in the blood is removed. You can also add salt to plain water and pour the solution into the spray bottle. This is effective in removing fresh blood stains.
- Create a baking soda solution: mix one part baking soda and two parts cold water in a large bowl to make a solution. Apply it on the stained area using a clean cloth and let it sit for 30 minutes. Use a cloth damped in cold water to rinse the remaining solution followed by the application of a dry towel to absorb the moisture.
- Apply detergent: mix one tablespoon of liquid dish washing detergent along with two cups of cold water in a bowl. Dip a white cloth in the solution and apply to the affected area. Gently brush the affected area with a toothbrush and wipe the solution by using a wet cloth. Dry the wet area by using a dry towel cloth.
